Boudoir by Ifa Brand sits firmly in the second category, a collection of body-positive art that explores empowerment and sexuality through the medium of self-styled photography.
After years of modelling, Ifa found herself repeatedly constrained by other people’s ideas of how she should look, pose, and exist within the frame. Self-portraiture offered a way out of that. By turning the camera on herself, Brand became both subject and creative director, free to pursue her own vision of how she wanted to be seen.
The result is Boudoir, a collection of Polaroids that are unfiltered, unedited and quietly confrontational. The photographs focus on the body as both subject and material. Often nude or partially dressed, Ifa appears alone, with lingerie, jewellery, latex, leather and fabric used more as texture than costume; something to press against, pull tight, or let fall away.
The settings are sparse and intimate. Beds, mirrors, floors and close-cropped interiors create a sense of privacy, as though the images were never intended for an audience beyond the lens itself.
Beyond the imagery, Boudoir by Ifa Brand is a beautifully made object. The pages are weighty and tactile, inviting you to slow down rather than flick through. Polaroids, reproduced at scale, hold their texture, with grain, shadow, and colour making each image feel alive.
